Post-treatment care

Massage contra-actions

These are temporary, mild side effects that may occur after massage. Massage influences circulation, nervous system activity, and soft tissue mechanics. As your body adapts following treatment, you may notice short-term changes. These mild effects are usually short-lived and typically settle within 24–48 hours. Common after-effects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Muscle soreness

  • Bruising

  • Inflammation

  • Cramping

  • Redness of the skin (Erythema)

  • Fatigue

  • Nausea

  • Headaches

  • Increased thirst and urination/defecation

  • Heightened emotional state

  • Cold-like symptoms

  • Breakouts (spots) – drinking plenty of water or herbal teas can help flush out toxins faster.

Dry needling contra-actions

  • Circular skin markings or discolouration

  • Mild tenderness in the treated area

  • A feeling of heaviness or warmth
